President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, located within the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The strategic decision aims to bolster security infrastructure and curb the rising wave of criminal activities across the region. The official announcement was made via a press statement released by Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola, Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor.
The newly approved military formation is positioned to significantly strengthen ongoing security operations, particularly in vulnerable areas frequently targeted by bandits and kidnappers.
By deploying additional troops and military assets directly to the location, the federal government aims to enhance rapid response capabilities, secure transit corridors, and protect local communities against terrorist elements operating around state borders.
Reacting to the development, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for keeping his promise to improve safety in the state. He commended the administration’s proactive approach, noting that establishing a dedicated battalion will give security forces the operational leverage needed to dismantle kidnapping networks and restore peace across affected communities.
Governor AbdulRazaq also praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for swiftly processing and approving Kwara State’s request for an expanded military footprint. He extended appreciation to key defense and intelligence bodies—including the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force—for their coordinated efforts in combating security threats.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public safety, the governor assured residents that Kwara State will continue offering full operational support to all security agencies stationed in the state. He emphasized that joint operations and sustained security investments remain crucial to ensuring a safe, stable environment where citizens can live and work without fear.
