Police detectives in Ondo State have arrested 10 young men suspected of being part of a kidnapping gang.

The arrests took place in Akure, the state capital, following a successful mission by the state’s Anti-Kidnapping unit and additional officers sent from the police headquarters. This operation is being hailed as a major breakthrough in the state’s fight against violent crime.

The police tracked the suspects to locations along Ondo Road using reliable tips and intelligence. The group consists of 10 men between the ages of 18 and 28. During the raid, officers seized a motorcycle the gang used for their operations and recovered cash that had been collected as ransom from victims.

A unique detail in the investigation is that some of the recovered ransom money was found partially burnt. This damaged cash, along with the other items seized, is currently being documented as evidence. The police are carefully processing these materials to ensure they have a strong case for the upcoming trial.

Since their arrest, the suspects have given helpful statements to the police, confessing to their involvement and explaining what each person’s job was within the gang. Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command is still working hard to find out if there are more members of this group hiding elsewhere or if they were involved in other crimes.

The police spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi, reassured the people of Ondo State that the command is dedicated to removing kidnappers and criminals from the area. He also asked the public to keep sharing information with the police, as help from the community is the best way to stop violent crimes and keep everyone safe.
