The Lagos State Government and the Federal Ministry of Works have announced that sections of the Apongbon Bridge and its connecting ramps will undergo major repairs starting Thursday, February 5, 2026. The project is expected to last for six weeks, ending on March 19. The repairs will focus on fixing failed asphalt sections on the lanes linking Inner Marina to the bridge, affecting both those entering and leaving the area. To keep everyone safe and allow workers to move quickly, parts of the road will be temporarily closed.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that work will start on the service lanes first before moving to the main bridge. This means drivers who usually take these routes will need to plan for diversions and extra travel time.
For motorists heading inbound toward the bridge from Inner Marina, the government suggests driving to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout, connecting through Adeniji Adele Road and Ebute Ero, and then using the ramp to get onto Eko Bridge. Those coming from Victoria Island or the Third Mainland Bridge should follow the designated ramps at the roundabout to bypass the construction zones.
For outbound traffic leaving Eko Bridge toward Inner Marina, drivers will be diverted through the Ebute Ero ramp and Adeniji Adele Road. However, if you are heading toward the Outer Marina or Victoria Island from Eko Bridge, you can still move straight across the Apongbon Bridge, though you should expect some changes in lane flow as the construction shifts sides.
The Ministry has promised to deploy traffic officers to help direct cars and reduce the “go-slow” during this six-week period. Officials are asking for patience from the public, emphasizing that these repairs are necessary to make the bridge safer for everyone. Drivers are encouraged to follow the signs and use the alternative routes to avoid getting stuck in heavy traffic.
