The National Councillors Forum of Nigeria has officially thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, calling the recent restoration of Local Government autonomy a “game changer.” At a press conference in Abuja, the group declared that giving local councils financial independence has finally brought the federal government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda directly to rural communities across the country.
With a massive network of 8,809 councillors across all 774 Local Government Areas, the forum argued that they are the best judges of the President’s performance because they work closest to the people.
They praised the administration for ensuring that funds now reach the grassroots, which they believe is essential for building better roads, improving health centers, and boosting local security.
Led by Dr. Evoh Okechukwu Nwikegwu, the forum also highlighted the President’s efforts in modernizing the military and reforming the agricultural sector as key reasons for their support. They maintained that these strategic moves have laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity, making a second term necessary for the President to consolidate his achievements.
The group is now mobilizing its members across over 176,000 polling units to take the President’s message to every household in Nigeria. They urged ward leaders to highlight the tangible benefits of the administration’s reforms, insisting that the President has shown the “courage and competence” required to lead the nation beyond 2027.
The forum’s leadership called for patience from the public regarding electoral reforms, asking Nigerians to trust the National Assembly to deliver a better version of the Electoral Act. They concluded that with the new financial freedom granted to local governments, the era of rural neglect is over, and the path to national growth is now clearer than ever.
