71.63% Nail core credit in NECO 2025 SSCE

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, revealing a commendable 71.63% pass rate for candidates securing five credits, including English and Mathematics.

Announced by the Registrar, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi, at the Minna headquarters, the results come exactly 52 days after the final paper was written. This swift turnaround marks a significant achievement for the council, providing a vital lifeline for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions both locally and abroad.

Out of the 95,160 candidates who sat for the 16 subjects offered, performance in core areas was particularly strong. English Language saw a 78.32% credit pass rate, while Mathematics recorded an impressive 91.35%.

Beyond the core requirements, a total of 82,082 candidates—roughly 86.26%—achieved five credits regardless of English and Mathematics. These statistics highlight a steady academic standard among the external candidates, who utilized this “second window” to further their educational goals.

However, the council also reported a concerning 31.7% surge in examination malpractice compared to the previous year. Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi disclosed that 9,016 candidates were booked for various infractions.

In a stern move to preserve the integrity of the certificate, NECO has recommended the blacklisting of five supervisors across FCT, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo, alongside the derecognition of four centers in Niger, Yobe, and Kano for organized cheating.

In a push for modernization, the Registrar also unveiled the 2026 Automated Staff Posting Calendar (APC). This new system moves away from manual processes to a randomized, online-based format. Staff members can now check their deployment status via the council’s dedicated portal using their birth dates and file numbers, a move intended to enhance transparency and efficiency within the organization’s internal operations.

Candidates who participated in the 2025 external exercise are advised to visit the official NECO website (www.neco.gov.ng) to access their results using their registration numbers. As the council celebrates this milestone in credible assessment, the focus remains on encouraging academic excellence while aggressively tackling the rising tide of exam fraud.
