In Maiduguri, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) and Operation DESERT SANITY V have arrested 65-year-old Hauwa Abulazeez, a suspected drug dealer, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of OPHK, confirmed that the arrest took place on January 23, 2026, following credible intelligence. The suspect is alleged to have acted as a primary distribution link, supplying cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorists across the Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya communities.

According to Lt. Col. Uba, initial inquiries reveal the suspect sourced the narcotics from Sarti Baruwa in Taraba State, utilizing established supply routes to reach the insurgents.

During the arrest, troops seized 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing roughly 30 kilograms. This recovery effectively disrupts a key resource intended to sustain terrorist operations in the region.

The suspect is in custody undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations continue to dismantle the wider trafficking network.

Lt. Col. Uba emphasized that the interception denies Boko Haram vital resources and bolsters regional security. He reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability to the North East.
